Christian Debater

Previously I had met a motion with the entitled of “Religions Bring More Harmful to the World”. I was proposition and finally I had defended successfully the motion. Since I was an undergraduate student until now, my identity is Christian debater. (I joined English and Mandarin debates when I was having my tertiary education.) Without simply bias to any side, I am open and objective to every topic especially the controversial topics. For instance, abortion, homosexual marriage, euthanasia just to name a few. This identity reminds me about my personal belief that has completely transformed my life to the max.

In debate community, I have to learn to accept things that common people cannot accept. For example, practicing LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) besides drinking alcohols among students and even adults are not wrong. When we are in debates, we need to neutralize or lay down our personal values, cultures, believes and even stance to promote an idea-exchange in intellectual discourse. However, I continue to stand strong with my belief because I know what I believe with, the life experience and transformation in my life.

Now what will we look at a person if we know that he or she is a LGBT practitioner? Many of us may feel awkward towards that person and look down at him or her, refusing to mix up with that person. Religious people generally will reject this group of people due to Holy Bible and Al-Quran condemn homosexuality. However, we should reflect that who is going to take the first step to help them if we refuse to do so. Remember, God loves us first before we love Him.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Does God love them? Yes, God loves homosexual people. We must understand that they are part of our society even if we may not accept homosexuality as our beliefs. I could still remember that when I encountered with LGBT practitioner, that person asked me to have sex homosexually together. (Just imagine, a handsome and muscular man just stood there and told you that I am a gay.) On that time, I told that person that:
1) A person needs to be a right person first before meeting with a right partner.
2) A person can learn to be contented as a single person. Single is not a curse.

In fact, we are still friends until now. That person still helped me before when I needed his help. We should not despise them as second class of human beings. Therefore, we should not be judgemental to everyone especially we meet the people that we are not comfortable with.

Besides that, I had read an issue discussion between Muslims and Christians. The statement “Islam is evil. Muslims are corrupted.” came out from Christians. When I read them, I prayed to God that He would forgive that person as he or she knew not what was speaking and I would not repeat the same mistake. Our words and actions should reflect our inner characters to be good example in this world. You may ask yourself with this question. Are you a world-transformation agent through your belief?  The answers are left for you. Thus, we should progress the humanities through our words and actions.

Based on few examples above, Christians should view controversial issues with different angles of perspectives to obtain objective view through critical thinking. Take for examples, the angles of perspectives can be a hybrid of logics, philosophies, science, laws just to list a few to progress our views in different aspects such as religion, society, individual and name a few. An avenue society will be opened up to see a greater and overall picture especially towards controversial issues to establish better roles to influence the world.

Friends, we may not be the best representations to contribute to our surroundings. Mahatma Gandhi said that, “I like Jesus Christ but I don’t like Christians.” But we will improve what we are doing to follow His commands to be salt and light in the world. As the saying goes, ‘action speaks louder than words’. We will play our roles to love others with God’s love that we have experienced without being judgemental to others.

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

God’s purpose is to bless us so that we have meaningful and fruitful life. He has sent His only son to die for our sin, Jesus becomes the bridge so that we can reconcile with God to have a new life. Mere word is too hard to describe this unconditional love. He is willing to die for your sin without hoping any reward from you. That is His unconditional and precious gift for you personally, accompanying with you to walk through all the trials and tribulations in your life. If you wish to accept Him, feel free to contact me.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,” (Ephesians 2:8)

Thank you for spending your precious time on it.
